Fresh is nice if you need help let me know small tanks such as a ten can be a balancing act between live stock and parameters. Planted opens a whole new playing field it's a challenge but if you can get it to balance its awesome

Shrimp are awesome at maintaining an aquarium especially if you have plants. Some shrimp are cheaper (ghosts) and others are vibrant. They have minimal impact on levels as well

It depends on what you want to do. Shrimp are less bio load compared to the same number of fish. I've lost count of how many I have in my ten gallon PFR setup I know there's at least 25 in there right now. I for sure wouldn't be able to have say 25 mollies in a ten gallon. Shrimp if you're looking to breed and maintain a population are also very restricted as to what kind of fish you can place with them. They also like densely planted tanks and cholla wood.

The big down side of shrimp is initial stock costs some types of fresh water shrimp can cost upwards of $15-20 each but there are many cheaper shrimp such as cherries, ghost and painted fires if you can find them cheap. There's also some socialized accessories such as filter intake guards as well
